I am a native New Yorker who was born and raised in Queens ,after High School I moved to Long Island ,I now live in Upstate New York. When I was in first grade my whole class went on a feild trip to the Queens Museum in Flushing Meadow Park where we visited the panorama. The panorama is a model of a miniature New York City that was built for the Worlds Fair in 1964 and is still there after 60 years. We went on a tram that went around the perimeter which simulated a helicopter flying above the city with a spectacular birdseye view. It was so amazing seeing all the buildings, houses, bridges, waterways ,parks and airports in a small scale, I remember turning to my classmate sitting next to me and said I am going to build one of these myself one day. Well 56 years later I am almost done ,I have completed 4 of the 5 boros, I have about 2 months lelt and I will be finished with my last boro Staten Island. My next city that I am currently working on is Minneapolis Minnesota.
My model is made out balsa wood and styrofoam which I cut, carve, paint, detail and then glued onto 20x30 inch styrafoam boards. It took 21 years so far to build and made almost one million buildings and over 300 boards. It cost over ten thousand dollars and about the same amount of hours to build. It is a lifelong project that I will never stop while working two jobs and raising a family. Every spare minute I have I dedicate to building my model, I hope to be able to do this full time some day.
This has been a passion of mine since I was 6 years old, and a hobby I will do for the rest of my life. After this city is complete it gets easier and much faster to build other cities, with all the experience of building for 21 years I have become faster and more efficient. I am also at the beginning of building the city of Minneapolis Minnesota in hopes of possibly contacting the Mall of America to see if they will be interested in displaying it there. If I had the chance to work on it full time it would take me 18 months to build. I am also interested in building other cities such as Los Angeles,Boston, Philadelphia, Houston, Chicago, and Las Vegas just to name a few.
My goal is to continue building north all of Westchester County to the Tapanzee Bridge ,west in New Jersey to the Meadowlands to Metlife Staduim and Newark Airport, parts of Western Connecticut, and east to Nassau County Long Island. When complete it will span 90 ft. long and 50 ft. wide. with over 800 sections total. I hope you will be abe to see my model some day and meet you in person, If you would like to help support my mission I am accepting donations to help with the materials, transportation , and rent out venues to perform shows around the country, your donation would be greatly appreciated. I hope to be in your area , I will keep an update on all my social media accounts.
